Ottawa Press Release

The Wheatridge Middle School Cross Country team traveled to Ottawa on Saturday, September 22nd.  
They had amazing fall temperatures for the hilliest races of their season.


Seventh grade runners had a mile long race.  Caroline Kuzma (8:53), Riley Hutchinson (9:14), Kendall
Elbert (9:55), and Emmaleigh Wiehn (12:04) represented the girls’ team.  The boys’ team was
represented by Nick Utter who medaled with a tenth place finish of 7:19, Matt Wintjen (7:51), Sam
Laird (8:15), and Max Goodwin (9:15).


Eighth grade runners had a two mile long race.  The girls’ team took first place overall with a total of
33 points!  Hannah Elliott led the race and took first place with a time of 15:00.  Natalie Claycamp took
third (15:55), Olivia Hinck took sixth (16:17), Charli McGill took tenth (16:53), Makenna Bartels took
thirteenth (17:29), and Taylor Dryden took twenty third (19:45).  The boys’ team took third place overall
with 58 points! Gage Graham took sixth place (14:10), Chance Henson took seventh place (14:12),
Jackson Elsey took ninth place (14:32), Nathan Pascarelli took fifteenth place (15:40), Jack Schroeter
took twenty first place (16:27), Jaden Woodward twenty five place (17:10), Dillon Magee took twenty
seventh (17:45), Trevor Hamilton took  thirty second place (18:42).

The Mustangs are excited to run at the PRMS meet at Celebration Park on Wednesday, September 26th.

The bus will be leaving WMS at 9:50! Coach Gailliez will be at the school at 9:25 and you can drop off your athlete any
time after then!

Cross Country Participants,
The Ottawa Middle School Cross Country Meet is Saturday, September 22nd at the high school’s course
located on Eisenhower Rd. just south (1/2 mile ) of I-35.  Just keep going on the gravel road straight
south till you see the course on the left. Parking is available on Eisenhower Rd west of the course and
Kingman Rd. north of the course.  Buses should park south of the hill on Eisenhower Rd. There will be
directional signs.
PLEASE DIRECT YOUR TEAM AND FANS TO AVOID THE QUARRY ON THE EAST SIDE!!!!!
The race schedule is as follows:
Girls’ Varsity is at 9:00                                                          7th Grade Girls is at 11:40

WE WILL START EARLIER THAN 11:40 IF THE HIGH SCHOOL RACES FINISH EARLY.
PLEASE ASK YOUR RUNNERS TO TELL THEIR FAMILIES – PETS SHOULD NOT BE BROUGHT TO THE COURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are giving medals to the top 20 in each race.  Medals will be handed out in the chute.

Timing and results will be emailed out to coaches after the meet.  Paper copies will be posted at the meet.

Location: Camp Chippewa

Directions: (From Pomona) Take highway 68 east out of Pomona.  After you cross the railroad tracks, take a right on Idaho Road.  

(From Ottawa) Take highway 68 west out of Ottawa for 5 miles. Turn left on Idaho Road. Take Idaho Road 2 miles south to a stop sign.  Keep going straight after the stop sign (gravel road).  Take the gravel road about ¾ mile, you will go around some curves, there will be a “Camp Chippewa” sign on the left side of the road.  Turn left at the sign and take the road back to the dining hall. 2571 Idaho Road, Ottawa, KS is the GPS address.

TRMS Press Release

The Wheatridge Cross Country Team competed at their second meet of the season on Saturday, September 15th at TRMS.

The seventh grade runners had a one-mile race.  Nick Utter earned a medal with an eleventh place finish (6:14), Matt Wintjen (6:52), Sam Laird (7:22), and Max Goodwin (8:28) represented the 7th grade boys’ team.  The girls’ team consisted of Caroline Kuzma (8:15), Riley Hutchinson (8:17), Kendall Elbert (8:56), and Emmaleigh Wiehn (11:06).

The eighth grade runners had a two-mile race.  The boys’ team took second place overall with a score of 76 points.  The first three Mustangs all ran medal-earning times; Chance Henson took  fifth place (13:04), Jackson Elsey took eleventh place (13:54), and Gage Graham took twelfth place (13:55).  Rounding out the boys’ team scorers were Jack Schroeter (14:38) and Nathan Pascarelli (15:10).  Other notable performances were Jaden Woodward (15:48), Dillon Magee (15:52), and Trevor Hamilton (16:21).  

The girls’ team took first place overall with an amazing score of 22 points!  Hannah Elliott lead the race and took first place with a time of 14:12!  The next four Mustangs all ran medal-earning times as well.  Natalie Claycamp took third (15:03), Makenna Bartels took sixth (15:31), Olivia Hinck took eighth (15:45), Charli McGill took eleventh (16:02), and Taylor Dryden took twenty third (18:45).  

The Mustangs are excited to run at their third meet of the season at Camp Chippewa on Thursday, September 20th.


Press Release Wellsville

The Wheatridge Middle School Cross Country Team kicked off their season in Wellsville on
Thursday, September 13th.  The seventh grade boys’ and girls’ team ran in a combined two
mile race with over 200 runners! Front runners for the Mustangs were Caroline Kuzma (19:18)
and Nick Utter (15:22) who both came in 55th place for their individual races.  


The eighth grade girls’ team took first place overall with a score of 59 points!!!  Hannah Elliott
took seventh place (14:07), Natalie Claycamp took fourteenth place (14:52), Makenna Bartels
took seventeenth place (14:58) Charli McGill took eighteen place (14:58) and Olivia Hinck rounded
off the top five with 31st place (16:12).


The eighth grade boys’ team took second overall with a score of 92 points!!   Chance Henson
took tenth place (13:07), Gage Graham took twelfth place (13:11), Jackson Elsey took sixteenth
place (13:19), Nathan Pascarelli took thirty fifth place (14:36), and Jack Schroeter completed the
top five in thirty ninth place (14:45).

The Mustangs are looking forward to their meet on Saturday, September 15th at Trail Ridge
Middle School in Gardner, KS.

Trail Ridge Middle School Meet - September 15th

Since this is the first weekend meet of the season, there are a few procedures/rules that we need everyone to be aware of.  We're going to be running at TRMS, and although it is close to many of your homes, all athletes who wish to run in the meet MUST RIDE THE BUS FROM WMS TO TRMS  Students who show up to TRMS with their parents and did NOT ride the bus will NOT be allowed to participate. We realize this seems bizarre, but it’s the rule, and we have to stick to it! 

The bus will be leaving WMS at 9:00am sharp!  


Coaches will be at the school ready for runner drop-offs at 8:30am.  Please do not drop your runner off earlier than that, as there will be no adult supervision, and we want everyone to be safe!

Welcome to Trail Ridge Middle School’s Cross Country Meet!
Date :  September 15th  - 10 AM start
Location:  Trail Ridge Middle School- 495 East Grand Street
Parking:  Buses in lot between schools (west lot) - Parents and fans TRMS east parking lot.  
(we will close Grand Star lot for the morning)
Time Schedule:  (Please note that times are approximate)
Fun Run 9:30 AM (1 mile)
7th girls 10 AM (1 mile)
7th boys 10:15   (1 Mile) following girls’ conclusion
8th girls 10:30 (2 miles) following 7th grade boys’ conclusion
8th boys 11:00 (2 miles) following 8th grade girls’ conclusion
Races:  7th graders will be running 1 mile and 8th graders will be running 2 miles.  The finish
line for both races will be at the same location – Finish line of the track.  Please see race maps
included in this packet.
Course: A portion of the course will be on concrete, so spikes are not advised.  However, if you
do opt to wear them then they can be no longer than 1/4” as you will be finishing on the track.
Medals: Medals will be given to the top 15 finishers at the conclusion of each race.  This will
be done at the finish line, there is no medal ceremony.
Timing & Results: All times will be recorded by Black Squirrel Timing.  Results will be posted

Wellsville Meet Information - September 13th

The meet will be held on the 40 acres located on the northwest corner of Wellsville.  The course is
just east of the Wellsville Elementary School at 218 Ash Street. This year our Fun Run for
Students 6th grade and below will begin at 3:45.

Bus, van, and fan parking will be very limited.  Parking for fans will be will be available in the parking
lot south of the new elementary school after 3:30 pm.  The easiest parking will be located in the  
student parking area north of the high school.  You will then need to walk north to 4th street, west
to the end of 4th street,  then north through the gates to the running area. Restroom facilities are
located at the school.  Please ask your bus drivers and patrons to be aware of the no parking
signs on 4th street.

Race times are approximate .  We will run ahead of schedule if possible.  If there is a problem with
extreme temperatures, we may revise the schedule.

If you would like to take your child home from the meet instead of them riding the bus back please sign
them out on the sign out sheet. The sign out sheet will be located next to the tub of snacks. Only a parent
or legal guardian can sign an athlete out after a meet. This procedure helps us ensure all athletes are
accounted for and safe.
