Our First Meet

We are so excited to run at our first meet, which is also our home meet, this upcoming Saturday!  The runners have been putting in a lot of hard work and it'll be exciting for everyone to get their first race in.

Since this is the first meet of the season, there are a few procedures/rules that we need everyone to be aware of.  We're going to be running at Celebration Park, and although it is close to many of your homes, all athletes who wish to run in the meet MUST RIDE THE BUS FROM WMS TO CELEBRATION PARK. Students who show up to Celebration Park with their parents and DID NOT ride the bus WILL NOT be allowed to participate.  We realize this seems bizarre, but it’s the rule, and we have to stick to it!

The bus will be leaving WMS at 9:00am sharp!  Coaches will be at the school ready for runner drop-offs at 8:30am.  Please do not drop your runner off earlier than that, as there will be no adult supervision, and we want everyone to be safe!

If an athlete is done and they want to leave, they MUST check out with either Coach Gailliez or Coach Kost.  This helps us make sure all athletes are accounted for when leaving a meet.   Athletes are only allowed to leave a meet with THEIR PARENT; no other adult may take an athlete from a meet!  If you wish for somebody else to pick up your child, they must pick them up from Wheatridge after we’ve returned from the meet.

7th graders will be running 1 mile and 8th graders will run 2 miles.  The finish line for both races will be at the same location, and the start positions will be in basic same spot but will head different directions.  Please see race maps below to see where you want to cheer your runner on.

TIME SCHEDULE:   (Please note that times are approximate)
7th Girls           10:00 a.m.     (1 Mile)
7th Boys          ~10:20 a.m.    (1Mile)  following girls conclusion
8th Parent Recognition  ~10:40 a.m.
8th Girls          ~10:50 a.m.    (2 Miles)
8th Boys         ~11:20 a.m.   (2 Miles)  following conclusion of 8th Girls race

Medals will be given to top 10 placers at the conclusion of each race.
This will be done at the finish line, there is no medal ceremony.

All times will be recorded by ticker timing.
We look forward to seeing you all out at the course and are excited to see how the athletes do this Saturday!
Happy Running,
Coach Gailliez & Coach Kost
