Cross Country 2019

End of the Season Reminders

It's hard to believe but the 2015 cross country season is coming to an end. Looking to next week there are a couple of events that I wanted to make sure parents were aware of.

Team Breakfast - Friday, October 9th @7:30AM
We will be having a runner and coaches breakfast at 7:30 am in Coach Kost's classroom. Last year we had donuts, fruit, bagels, muffins, breakfast casserole, and juice. This is a great way to meet as a team one last time and celebrate a great season! If you are interested in sending your runner with a breakfast item to share with the team, please email me and let me know what your runner will be bringing so we can plan to have enough food!

Team Fundraiser Concessions - Saturday, October 10th from 7:40AM-1:30PM
We have the opportunity to raise money for athletics. There is a volleyball tournament at Wheatridge that day, and athletics has signed up to work the concession stand.   This money will help buy materials needed for cross country and the other athletic teams at Wheatridge. We need at least one parent volunteer to be present, and at least three athletes.  We need volunteers to work from 7:40am - 1:30, if you cannot be here the whole time that's okay, just let me know what time you can work!  Coach Kost and Mrs. Rousselo will be working at the tournament that day, so we will be close by if any questions arise. We will also both be there to help clean up and close down the concession stand.  Please let Coach Kost or Mrs. Rousselo know if you would be available to help out.  Concession stand working is fairly simple and easy, so we hope we can make this work for the team!

First Meet - Celebration Park - Saturday, September 12th

We are so excited to run at our first meet, which is also our home meet, this upcoming Saturday!  The runners have been putting in a lot of hard work and it'll be exciting for everyone to get their first race in.

Since this is the first meet of the season, there are a few procedures/rules that we need everyone to be aware of.  We're going to be running at Celebration Park, and although it is close to many of your homes, all athletes who wish to run in the meet MUST RIDE THE BUS FROM WMS TO CELEBRATION PARKStudents who show up to Celebration Park with their parents and DID NOT ride the bus WILL NOT be allowed to participate. We realize this seems bizarre, but it’s the rule, and we have to stick to it!

The bus will be leaving WMS at 9:00am sharp!

Coaches will be at the school ready for runner drop-offs at 8:30am.  Please do not drop your runner off earlier than that, as there will be no adult supervision, and we want everyone to be safe!

If an athlete is done and they want to leave, they MUST check out with either Coach Kost or Coach Horne.  This helps us make sure all athletes are accounted for when leaving a meet.   Athletes are only allowed to leave a meet with THEIR PARENT; no other adult may take an athlete from a meet!  If you wish for somebody else to pick up your child, they must pick them up from Wheatridge after we’ve returned from the meet.

7th graders will be running 1 mile and 8th graders will run 2 miles.  The finish line for both races will be at the same location, and the start positions will be in basic same spot but will head different directions.  Please see race maps below to see where you want to cheer your runner on.

TIME SCHEDULE:   (Please note that times are approximate)
7th Girls           10:00 a.m.     (1 Mile)
7th Boys          ~10:20 a.m.    (1Mile)  following girls conclusion
8th Parent Recognition  ~10:40 a.m.
8th Girls          ~10:50 a.m.    (2 Miles)
8th Boys         ~11:20 a.m.   (2 Miles)  following conclusion of 8th Girls race

Medals will be given to top 10 placers at the conclusion of each race.
This will be done at the finish line, there is no medal ceremony.

We look forward to seeing you all out at the course and are excited to see how the athletes do this Saturday! If you have any questions about this meet or the season in general, please contact us!

Happy Running,
Coach Kost & Coach Horne
