PRMS Press Release

The Wheatridge Cross Country team had an amazing second-to-last meet of the season!  They traveled across town to Pioneer Ridge’s meet at Celebration Park and the cool weather provided the perfect conditions for many top-ten medals and a lot of personal records!

The seventh grade girls’ team took first as a team out of the five schools running!  Hannah Elliott led and won the race with a time of 6:15 (PR).  Two other seventh grade girls ran medal earning races;  Natalie Yarbrough took fifth place (6:40 PR) and Natalie Claycamp took seventh place (6:42 PR).  Other awesome performances were Charli McGill (6:51 PR), Olivia Hinck (7:11), and Taylor Dryden (7:13 PR).

The seventh grade boys’ team had wonderful races as well!  Gage Graham earned a medal for his tenth place race of 6:19 (PR), Kyler Leadbetter (7:07), Trevor Hamilton (7:17), Tyler Utter (7:38 PR), Will Korosec (7:42 PR), and Sam McQueen (8:45 PR).

The eighth grade girls’ team all earned medals and ran personal records.  Jillian Velasquez took third place with a time of 13:25 (PR), Zoey Edwards took fifth place with a time of 13:28 (PR), and Sadie Helms took ninth place with a time of 15:03 (PR).  

Donald Chambers represented the eighth grade boys with a personal record setting race of 13:24 (PR).

The Mustangs are starting their taper as they prepare for their last meet of the season in Eudora on Thursday, October 5th.

Medals will be awarded to the top ten runners in each division and will be given out in the chute

Results
Official time results will be sent out via email after the race (Thursday, Sept. 28th) to the participating schools.  These will not be posted online.

7th graders will run 1 mile
8th graders will run 2 miles

Ottawa Press Release

The Wheatridge Cross Country team traveled to the very hilly Ottawa course on Saturday, September 23rd.  Although the hot, humid weather and hilly course did not provide any Personal Records for any of the Mustangs, many runners earned top-twenty medals!


The seventh grade girls’ team took first place overall. Hannah Elliott led the way and won the one mile race (7:08), Natalie Yarbrough took fourth (7:33), Natalie Claycamp took seventh (7:46), Charli McGill took thirteenth (8:03), Olivia Hinck took eighteenth (8:13), and Taylor Dryden took twenty third (8:52).  


The boys team ran the second race of the day and did a great job of tackling the hilly course.  Gage Graham took eighth place (7:16), Jackson Elsey took ninth place (7:20), Kyler Leadbetter took eighteenth (7:50), Tyler Utter took thirty second (9:03), Will Korosec took thirty third (9:04), and Sam McQueen took thirty eighth (10:37).


Each of the two mile eighth grade races were represented by one Wheatridge Mustang.  Sadie Helms took fifth place (17:55) in the girls’ race and Shane Chambers took sixteenth place (16:55) in the boys’ race.

The Mustangs are excited to revisit the first course of the season at Pioneer Ridge’s meet on Wednesday, September 27th.    

Spring Hill Press Release

The Wheatridge Cross Country team traveled to Spring Hill on Thursday, September 21st for their fourth meet of the season.

The seventh grade girls’ team took first place overall!  Hannah Elliott led the one mile race and earned a first place medal with a time of 6:23.  Natalie Claycamp came in fifth place (6:54), Natalie Yarbrough came in seventh place (6:57 PR), and Charlie McGill took ninth place (6:59) and all three girls earned medals.  Taylor Dryden (7:21 PR) and Oliva Hinck (7:22) rounded out the girls team performances.

The seventh grade boys’ team did a great job.  Jackson Elsey and Gage Graham both ran 6:43, Kyler Leadbetter (7:21), Tyler Utter (7:40 PR), Will Korosec (7:53 PR), and Sam McQueen (9:02 PR) all had great races.

All three eighth grade girls ran medal earning times in their two miles race - Zoey Edwards took fourth place (14:31 PR), Jillian Velasquez took fifth place (15:38), and Sadie Helms took eighth place (16:16).  Shane Chamber ran the last race of the day with a time of 15:05.  

The Cross Country team is looking forward to running the hills at the Ottawa meet on Saturday, September 23rd.

The bus will be leaving WMS promptly at 9:30!

The Ottawa Middle School Cross Country Meet is Saturday, September 24th at the high school’s course located on Eisenhower Rd. just south (1/2 mile ) of I-35.  Just keep going on the gravel road straight south till you see the course on the left.  Parking is available on Eisenhower Rd west of the course and Kingman Rd. north of the course.  Buses should park south of the hill on Eisenhower Rd.  There will be directional signs.

PLEASE DIRECT YOUR TEAM AND FANS TO AVOID THE QUARRY ON THE EAST SIDE!!!!!

The race schedule is as follows:
Girls’ Varsity is at 9:00                                                          7th Grade Girls is at 11:15
Boys’ Varsity is at 9:30                                                          7th Grade Boys is at 11:35

WE WILL START EARLIER THAN 11:15 IF THE HIGH SCHOOL RACES FINISH EARLY.

Medals will be awarded at the finish line to the top 20 in each division. We have six teams running this year.

Spring Hill Meet Information - Thursday, September 21st

Below is the following information from Spring Hill regarding our meet on Thursday!

We are excited to host your teams in our CC meet coming up on Thursday, September 21st!

Location:
The meet will be held at SHMS North Campus, 300 E South Street, Spring Hill, KS
66083. Our course has been designed in a 1-mile loop for 7th grade with a slight
adjustment as the 8th grade will run the loop twice to complete a 2-mile run. The course is
located just north of the parking lot and baseball field.

Parking:
SHMS North will dismiss at 3:20pm. Teams can be dropped off by 3:10pm at
the North parking lot prior to our student dismissal, otherwise, access to the lot will be
limited until 3:40pm. Bus parking is available at SHMS South, 301 E South Street. Please
park in the southeast corner of the lot. There will be limited parking for spectators at the
SHMS North lot, overflow parking is across the street at SHMS South.

Concession & Restrooms:
There will be a concession stand and restrooms available near the course.

Race schedule:
7th girls – 4pm (1-mile)
7th boys – 4:15pm (1-mile)
8th girls – 4:30 pm (2-mile)
8th boys- 4:50pm (2-mile)
• Race times are approximate. We will run ahead of schedule if possible.


Awards:
Individual medals will be awarded to the top 10 finishers in each of the four
divisions. Times will be emailed to coaches as soon as possible after the races are
finished


Monday, September 25th

We have the opportunity to work the concession stand to raise money for the team as well as offer support to the Volleyball team!  

In lieu of a practice that day, athletes will work in groups of 6 and will rotate from helping in the concession stand and cheering for the seventh grade Volleyball team.  

Athletes are not required to stay past the 4:45 end-of-practice time, however, we are encouraging as many as possible to stay and help work concessions/cheer for the volleyball until the end of the games (usually around 6:00).  

If athletes bought a CC shirt they are encouraged to wear it that day!

TRMS Press Release

The Wheatridge Cross Country Team ran at the Trail Ridge Middle School meet on Saturday, September 16th.  It was a hot and humid day, but the Mustangs all had great performances.

The seventh grade girls’ team took second place overall and many Personal Records were set!  Hannah Elliott earned a medal with a sixth place finish (6:23 PR), Natalie Claycamp earned a medal with a twelfth place finish (6:46 PR), Olivia Hinck (6:55 PR), Charli McGill (6:55 PR), Natalie Yarbrough (7:14) and Taylor Dryden (7:36) all had great races.

The seventh grade boys set many Personal Records during their one mile race as well!  Jackson Elsey (6:36 PR), Gage Graham (6:36 PR), Trevor Hamilton (7:17 PR), Kyler Leadbetter (7:35), Tyler Utter (8:39), Will Korosec (8:53), and Sam McQueen (9:43 PR) had awesome third races of the season.

The eighth grade girls’ team consisted of Jillian Velasquez who earned a medal with a tenth place time of 15:41, Zoey Edwards who earned a medal with an eleventh place time of 15:42, and Sadie Helms (16:44).  Shane Chambers ran the last race of the day with a time of 15:27.

The Mustangs travel to Spring Hill on Thursday, September 21st for their fourth meet of the season.    

 

Wellsville Press Release

The Wheatridge Middle School Mustangs traveled to Wellsville for their second meet of the season.  The hot weather didn’t get them down and they ran well against the other 18 schools.

The seventh grade boys and girls ran their first two mile race of the season.  Medal award finishers were Hannah Elliott who took fourth place (14:23), Natalie Claycamp who took twelfth place (15:36), Charli McGill who took twentieth place (15:51), and Natalie Yarbrough who took twenty fifth place (16:11).  Olivia Hinck (16:35) and Taylor Dryden (18:09) had great races as well!  The boy’s team fared well with Gage Graham (15:05),  Jackson Elsey (15:25), Trevor Hamilton (18:08), Kyler Leadbetter (18:28), Tyler Utter (20:20), Will Korosec (20:28), and Sam McQueen (26:24).  

The eighth grade girls all ran medal-winning races!  Jillian Velasquez took fifteenth place (15:24), Zoey Edwards took sixteenth place (15:26), and Sadie Helms took twenty fifth place (17:06).  Shane Chambers represented the boys team with a run of 14:47 (PR).

The runners are excited to run at Trail Ridge Middle School on Saturday, September 16th.

Welcome to Trail Ridge Middle School’s Cross Country Meet!

Location:  Trail Ridge Middle School- 495 East Grand Street

ParkingBuses in lot between schools (west lot) - Parents and fans TRMS east parking lot.  (we will close Grand Star lot for the morning)

Time Schedule:  (Please note that times are approximate)
7th girls            1:30                 (1 mile)
7th boys           1:45                 (1 Mile) following girls’ conclusion
8th girls            2:00                 (2 miles) following 7th grade boys’ conclusion
8th boys           2:30                 (2 miles) following 8th grade girls’ conclusion

Races:  7th graders will be running 1 mile and 8th graders will be running 2 miles.  The finish line for both races will be at the same location, as will the finish line.  Please see race maps at the bottom of this post.

Course: A portion of the course will be on concrete, so spikes are not advised.  However, if you do opt to wear them then they can be no longer than 1/4” as you will be finishing on the track.

Chutes: Chutes will be denoted by an abbreviations other school name.

Medals: Medals will be given to the top 15 finishers at the conclusion of each race.  This will be done at the finish line, there is no medal ceremony.

Wellsville Meet Information


The following information is from Wellsville about our upcoming meet!  If you have any questions that are not covered below, please send either Coach Gailliez or Coach White an email with your question(s).


Wellsville CC Invitational September 14th, 2017

Location:
The meet will be held on the 40 acres located on the northwest corner of Wellsville. The course is just east of the Wellsville Elementary School at 218 Ash Street.

Fun Run:
This year our Fun Run for Students 6th grade and below will begin at 3:45.

Fan Parking:
Parking for fans will be will be available in the parking lot south of the new elementary school after 3:30 pm. The easiest parking will be located in the student parking area north of the high school. You will then need to walk north to 4th street, west to the end of 4th street, then north through the gates to the running area. Restroom facilities are located at the school. Please ask your bus drivers and patrons to be aware of the no parking signs on 4th street.

TIME SCHEDULE: Fun Run 3:45 (1 mile)
7th Girls & Boys 4:00 PM (2 Miles)**
8th Boys & Girls 4:25 PM (2 Miles)

Race times are approximate . We will run ahead of schedule if possible. If there is a problem with extreme temperatures, we may revise the schedule.

Celebration Park Press Release

The Wheatridge Middle School Cross Country team kicked off their season with a home meet at Celebration Park on Saturday, September 9th.  

The seventh grade girls all had awesome performances in their one mile races and took second place overall as a team.   Medal winners were Hannah Elliott with a third place finish of 6:28 and Natalie Claycamp with a tenth place finish of 6:59.  Natalie Yarbrough (7:03), Charli McGill (7:09), Olivia Hinck (7:31), and Taylor Dryden (7:34) all had great first-meet performances!

The seventh grade boys team kicked off their season with lots of great performances as well!  Their team consisted of Jackson Elsey (6:38), Gage Graham (6:53), Kyler Leadbetter (6:53), Trevor Hamilton (7:41), Tyler Utter (8:00), Will Korosec (8:31), and Sam McQueen (10:03).

The eighth grade two mile race was well run by all three of the eighth grade runners.  Jillian Velasquez earned a medal with her fifth place finish time of 14:08, Sadie Helms ran a 16:10, and Shane Chambers represented the boy’s team with a run of 15:23.

The Mustangs are looking forward to their second meet of the season, which is in Wellsville on Thursday, September 14th.

Cross Country Meet Information

Since this is the first meet of the season, there are a few procedures/rules that we need everyone to be aware of.  We're going to be running at Celebration Park, and although it is close to many of your homes, all athletes who wish to run in the meet MUST RIDE THE BUS FROM WMS TO CELEBRATION PARKStudents who show up to Celebration Park with their parents and DID NOT ride the bus WILL NOT be allowed to participate. We realize this seems bizarre, but it’s the rule, and we have to stick to it! 

The bus will be leaving WMS at 9:00am sharp!  

Coaches will be at the school ready for runner drop-offs at 8:30am.  Please do not drop your runner off earlier than that, as there will be no adult supervision, and we want everyone to be safe!

If an athlete is done and they want to leave, they MUST check out with our manager, he will be at our "base camp" with the sign out clipboard.  This helps us make sure all athletes are accounted for when leaving a meet.   Athletes are only allowed to leave a meet with THEIR PARENT; no other adult may take an athlete from a meet!  If you wish for somebody else to pick up your child, they must pick them up from Wheatridge after we’ve returned from the meet.

7th Girls 10:00 a.m. (1 Mile)
